FOR THE “NOSIEST” STUDENTS AN ANNOUNCEMENT
FROM AFB
L'Occitane Accepting Applications for Free Summer Fragrance Workshop
for Visually Impaired Students Aged 14-16
NEW YORK (February 14, 2006)-French beauty company, L'Occitane
en Provence, and the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) are
sponsoring a contest to offer young people with vision loss the
opportunity to travel to France this summer to learn about fragrance
at L'Occitane's perfume school for the visually impaired, Provence
dans tous les sens
(Provence in every sense).
Four teenagers aged 14-16 will be selected to attend the school
in Provence, where they will learn about essential oils and fragrance
design. The idea for the summer school came from L'Occitane's founder,
Olivier Baussan, who was inspired by watching a blind woman smell
his perfumes and wanted to help visually impaired teens explore
their senses through the scents and savors of Provence.
"The summer workshop helps the development of these young
people's senses and may even inspire future careers," said
Christine Burke, Vice President of Marketing, at L'Occitane. "It's
a great opportunity for them to learn about fragrance and essential
oils, meet French students their age, and explore the magic and
beauty of Provence."
"We are thrilled to be partnering with L'Occitane to introduce
young people to the art of perfume-making, and France," said
Carl R. Augusto, AFB President & CEO. "L'Occitane's summer
workshop is a wonderful experience for everyone involved."
The L'Occitane summer school for the visually impaired will be
held in Provence, France, June 17/18- 21/22, 2006. All flights and
accommodations for participants and their chaperones are generously
funded by L'Occitane.
Students can apply for the summer course today by visiting AFB's
web site at: http://www.afb.org/l%27occitaneworkshop.asp
and submitting the application. Applications must be received no
later than April 14, 2006.
Provence dans tous les sens is supported financially by L'Occitane
and other individuals and businesses in the Provence region. It
is managed by company employees in the corporate headquarters in
Manosque, France, and seeks to reflect L'Occitane's philanthropic
philosophy of giving back to the community.
Inspired by his ancestors' traditions, Olivier Baussan founded
L'Occitane over 30 years ago in the Provence region of France. All
L'Occitane products for bath, body, skincare and home are passionately
created to preserve the authentic ingredients and traditions of
the Mediterranean land. To give greater accessibility, L'Occitane
has incorporated Braille labeling on its boxes and containers. L'Occitane
