99 DRUMS: WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
99 Drums, presented by Accessible Arts, Inc., for visually-impaired
youth, ages 9-15, will occur April 22 & 23, 2006 at Kansas State
School for the Blind, Kansas City, Kansas
99 Drums is a weekend of interactive music and dance workshops
exploring the arts, history, customs, and food of West African,
Native American, Caribbean and Middle Eastern cultures. Workshops
and performances will be presented by professional artists from
the Traditional Music Society (Bird Fleming, Artistic Director),
Accessible Arts, and storytellers.
Children ages 9-15 from across the state of Kansas and the Kansas
City metropolitan area are welcome. Registration costs $45 if registered
by April 14th; $60 after April 14th on a space available basis.
Cost includes 10 workshops, 4 meals and an overnight stay! (Scholarships
are available; must request in writing by April 14th)
Activities run from 8:30 AM Saturday, April 22 to 4:30 PM Sunday,
April 23, 2006.
99 Drums is presented by Accessible Arts, Inc. in collaboration
with the Kansas State School for the Blind, and the Traditional
Music Society
99 Drums will bring together a group of children with and without
disabilities to experience music and dance in a celebration of diverse
cultures in an inclusive environment. Participants may stay Saturday
night on the campus of the Kansas State School for the Blind (overnight
adult supervision will be provided). There will be a free public
performance on Sunday, April 23rd at 2:30 PM in the gym. Families
and
the public are invited.
Adult volunteers are essential to this program. Please consider
volunteering. Training will occur before the event. If you're interested,
